In your second to last paragraph you may want to replace "mute" with moot" - if you are going to write a pedantic post, you might want to be pedantic about editing it... :)

One theory in pirates eye patches is that they wore them to always have one eye adjusted to darkness. This would allow them to see better while raiding the hold of the opposing ship, this give them an advantage.

Argh! Piracy rocks!

I'm looking forward to 2111. Then all the people wearing those dumb glasses will be blinded and funnily walk into objects. That'll be fun for parties.

Hey there, stranger! It's been so long since last we communicated that I just realized you're no longer on Facebook. But I'm checking out and have bookmarked your blog.

Just wanted to say that, to me, the funniest offhand comment in a song is Jimi Hendrix, during Red House...after singing about how his "baby don't love [him] no more", he says, "That's alright; I still got my guitar". He then proceeds to get over the woman who done him wrong by having a three-way with said guitar and the twelve bar blues, making both of them his new girlfriends.

Plus, the last line of the song, "If my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will"? One of the great final lines of all time.

Shameless ripoff of Bejeweled? Well, the combat may resemble the gameplay of the casual classic, if you play Puzzle Quest the same way you're playing Bejeweled you are simultaneously making it hard on yourself and not playing to the strengths of the magic system. It's far more fun than the game to which it owes its existence. I haven't played Call of Duty and nothing I've seen or heard convinces me I am missing anything.

Funny. While I agree that puzzle quest is a good game, (I bought it for both the DS and the XBox 360), it is by no means the best game of the year. As far as I can tell, (and yes I have completed the main quest and all side quests), Puzzle Quest is just a shameless ripoff of bejeweled. It's a fun ripoff, but it's no more fun than the game it owes it's existence to. Game of the year is hands down Call of Duty 4 - Modern Combat. It is innovative, gorgeous, and has the best solo campaign and competitive multiplayer of any game this year, including Bioshock and Halo 3.

It's been a while since I looked at Pawnzilla. I forgot how cool this test extension was. What is interesting were the amount of bugs that were found when the conversion was made to this model.

For example, when we were testing a pawns attack from a square, only the immediate squares around it tended to be test. It was too cumbersome to test all 64 squares for the correct state, so it was not done for all the tests. This lead to bugs with squares being attacked when they shouldn't.

This change has not only made the tests easier to read, it made them more complete and quicker to write.

aakin: I don't know where you heard that Java is 100 times faster than Ruby. I don't even think that one could manipulate a completely bogus synthetic benchmark and still make that claim, and as a legitimate argument, it's completely specious. But yes, I would say that the average programmer would rather not user Ruby.

And the quote is not vague - if I had to build a system for which performance was the primary concern, I would certainly not use Java. Note, I'm not talking about Enterprise applications with web services, data access, distributed operation, and security concerns with an eye to extension and flexibility. I wouldn't want to use an OS written in Java. I wouldn't want my graphics driver to be written in Java. So on and so forth.

Variety is the spice of life, let us use the best tools in the best way we know how.

Jennifer, I would say that you are the follower, and you are the one who thinks in the box. To say that this movie "shot to your core" and the "core of others" because you know god (er, God, sorry) is not a comment on the quality of the movie, but a comment on the fact that Christians will defend it regardless of it's quality as a film, praising the heavy-handed allegory.

Blood is NOT what's wrong with the world today, and it is not satan (er, SATAN, sorry). The fact remains that even in the Christian milieu, the blood of Christ is an incredibly important symbol, and to have the Christ figure die a bloodless death in this movie lowers the stakes significantly. I appreciate your comments, but stand by my review, this movie not great but merely adequate.

I agree with Ken Liu. The witch does die. Christians understood the point of the story. You do NOT need to see blood shed to feel the impact of the movie. The movie was amazing and very chilling. It shot to the core of me!! I know that it went to the core of others as well if they know God. The movie was intended to show children at a young age that God can be with you in a time of horrible things. The whole basis of the story was about 4 children who went to the country sides to get away from the city of London. The reason they left was BECAUSE OF WAR. It's very obvious why there was no blood shed. When a REAL artists sits down to create a movie about something that could have possibly happened during a war was the fact that children at that time were hearing stories of their families and friends dying. The last thing that was on that producers mind was blood. That is what is wrong with the world today, blood. Why does it even have to be shed in movies? Just to entertain you? That is SATAN! I am a christian, obviously, and I do not agree with your review simply because you seem to be a follower and well, you think in the box.

Jobs is clueless, he doesn't even know that his own Apple Online Store, iTunes Music Store, .Mac and retail store operations ALL run on Java. Java does not just play a small part in this, it is THE platform that all these Apple services run on.

Someone needs to clue him into the facts of his own companies operations.

Thats what impressed me so much by tesla. Sure they were lithium batteries, the same kind as used in the volt (as opposed to the lead acid batteries in the EV1) but they were the same kind found in laptops and thus I am guessing easer and cheaper to get a hold of in large numbers.

I disagree--the song is OK, but others that he has written originally are superb. Repeated themes include robots, zombies, monkeys and Christmas. Who else writes lyrics like "You're a day-glo pterodactyl...you're one bad-ass fucking fractal" or "All I know is: steak tastes better when I take my Steak-Tastes-Better-Pill"?

There's a lot to say about your points here, but I'll stick to a side-note. LDAP in Ruby (especially on Windows) is now a lot easier. Look at the Net::LDAP library, which is in pure Ruby and doesn't require a compiler or DLLs.
